recommendations: gritty, real, industrial space

hi. i'm hoping someone might recommend books, movies and games set in space that have a sort of gritty, industrial feel. i'd like some consideration to the science part of science fiction, though i don't mind some corner cutting in this department.

alien comes to mind. the style elements i'm talking about are gradually subtracted over the course of the alien movies until they're nearly removed from resurrection.

i'd really appreciate anything you could turn me on to.
