HBO announced at Wednesday's Television Critics Association summer press tour that the 10-episode second season of Rome, premiering in January 2007, will likely be its last. Chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht explains, "It's an enormous undertaking to do a regular series 6,000 miles away in a foreign country." (As if Vancouver can't pass for Italy.)
it looks like HBO is cutting budgets. they're famous for giving royal treatment to tv dramas, but there seems to be a nervous trend of dumping expensive projects (carnivale, deadwood, rome). and these genre shows are being replaced with standard fodder like big love, sopranos, the wire, sex & the city, curb your enthusiasm, entourage. well...that's what I see happening anyway.
