I've seen CASABLANCA and PSYCHO too. spud has a point. it's prolly the most critically acclaimed comic I can think of. and it was when I was reading comics too. but, and this but is bigger than J-Lo's butt, nothing about WATCHMEN has seeped its way into popular culture the way "here's lookin' at you kid," "use the force, Luke," or parodies of Janet Leigh's shower scene have. I think that's what maxy was saying. I liked x-men. then I liked batman or spidey or darkness, etc. they were different worlds from WATCHMEN. completely different. WATCHMEN was just an old comic with badly drawn characters (and drawing is prolly the biggest "draw" to mainstream comics) who had particularly gay costumes and names I'd never heard of. star wars was an action figure phenomenon throughout the 80s. and although I wasn't even born until 1978, I remembered episode 4 vividly when I was only 5 years old (and obviously later). dunno. maybe it was different for you but...well...for one thing, if I had never heard of SW and watched episode 4 for the first time tomorrow, I'd prolly laugh it off as if it were 300.
point of curiosity: I only saw STRAW DOGS because my father bought the vhs when I was a kid. pure luck. never would've heard of it otherwise.
