No I'm not offended. Just wanted to let some steam out of my system. I'm boiling as it is (literally) cuz I've caught this bad influenza so I guess I'm slightly edgier than normal. Sorry for that ;) Besides, I get an impression you read my posts way too seriously... I'm not that kind of a person at all. I like good discussions and do value your opinion, it just pisses me off (in a cartoonish kinda way, not that I literally throw mugs and plates to the floor) when you dismiss my posts as too serious. They aren't meant to be. Also, I guess you have to take into account that I find it quite difficult to express my opinion in English without unintentionally letting you the opportunity to bash it over some lingual trap I let myself fall into. Oh, and yes, I do like to complicate things... it's just too simple

As for that discussion over time travel, I'll leave it at that for the moment... I have tons of britcoms to watch and I can do that from a distance my eyes can tolerate. This text is just too close for comfort

Thanks Max, I'm sure I will ;) :D BTW, in addition to some on the list you helped me with I also downloaded "Absolute Power" (also runs Saturdays on BBC prime IIRC) and "Joking Apart" (by Steven Moffat). Should be good if IMDB and "British Sitcom Guide" reviews are to be trusted :? I'll go medicate myself now :D

Bought Orange Box yesterday (bargain, buy it :) )... means i'm on steam and its actually pretty good. Vastly improved from a couple of years back when i last used it. Stable on vista too :o

I downloaded Stardust yesterday for my sister and watched it. Its actually rather enjoyable, lots of british people in it (ricky gervais, green wing people, etc.) There's a lot of that tedious LOTR style panning camera over some riding a horse which it could have done with out, but I rather enjoyed it like I mentioned. Will be downloading a better rip as and when its available. its a family/childrens movie, but i posted it:

the drug monkey from supertroopers. I think he was just invented for the movie. nevermind. I forgot you didn't care for st so it kinda loses its impact. I had fun thinking it up anyway.

Watched "Joking Apart" last night. I won't go into details of what it is, as there's a nice short review of it on British Sitcom Guide. I enjoyed it greatly and some of the parts are terribly funny, especially the later ones. The only thing that I could complain about is the voice of the lead actor. He constantly spoke subtly, almost like whispering, and I thought that was a bit annoying cuz the context was mostly quite the opposite to subtle. It's a great comedy though. I think it's really a shame it was never released on DVDs and last aired way back in 1994. I guess it's more important to BBC to constantly bombard us with crap like Eastenders and let everyone forget they actually have some excellent programming gathering dust on their shelves, doh!

gone baby, gone. considering ben affleck wrote & directed and considering that the plot is about as original as the toast & eggs i had this morning, I'd say this was fecking brilliant.

don't get me wrong. it's not a brilliant movie. but I never would have noticed that it was affleck's directorial debut, and the extreme obviousness of the plot never bothered me because I never had to think about it. I guess you could say it was a mystery thriller that wasn't much of a mystery because it was so poorly directed - I suppose that's why I never felt like it was a movie about "figuring it out." on the other hand, I thought the whole thing was brilliantly acted. well...ok...I'm not entirely sure what morgan freeman was doing in it. but casey affleck was perfect. ed harris was perfect. the supporting cast were great. I still hate the red sox though.

So, basically, if you'd've had a more imaginative breakfast you'd've wrote it was a total crap :P :googley: Seriously though, have you by any chance read the book by Dennis Lehane? I wonder how it would compare to the movie :?

no. I have not. there's nothing wrong with the plot. it's just not new. it doesn't redefine any genres or anything. acting is good. worth it for that. otherwise a competent but uninspired movie.

heroes and californication.

I see. I'll most def try to get a hold of the book first. There are shitloads of favorable reviews of the book online and is of a genre (or is it "in a genre" :?) I love so it made on the top part of my wish list. I'll prolly watch the movie too, only after I read the book as I'd really hate it if the book turned up to be excellent and I'd've already watched the movie. It'd just limit my imagination with how Affleck thought the whole shebang should look and feel like if I went with the movie first IMHO.

of course, the other side to that coin is that the adaptation is almost always a pale reflection of the original, so if you watch the movie first and like it, you'll only enjoy the book more, but if the movie stinks, then you still get to enjoy the book.

Yeah, it's hard to argue for either option. It could just as well be that for some movies and books it turns out to be a better choice if you went with the book first, and for some other movies vice versa. There's no general rule to this IMO. It's just my personal preference as I read some books after I saw the movie and doing it in that order always left me wondering how would I imagine it myself. I guess it all depends on the quality of the book... For example, I read Contact before I saw the movie and I thought the movie sucked big time in regards to the book. I was left totally disappointed with the movie but glad I read the book first. With Manchurian Candidate I watched the movie (the original one) first and prolly cuz of that hadn't thought much of the book. It just felt kinda stale and unimaginative. Then again, I didn't think much of the movie either. I was left disappointed with both movie and the book. Then I saw the latest reincarnation of the movie when it came out and read the book once more this summer and I actually thought the book was better than I remembered it to be. :wacky:

Heh, I see what you did there... witty! :D Though I hope many worlds theory turns out to be the right one as opposed to the Copenhagen interpretation... this way I could experience all the possibilities and not even have a moral hangover the morning after in one single reality  Say, was there a movie made based on the Egan's "Permutation City" by any chance? That'd be neat ;)
