I'm dumping some things in the newsgroups over the next week while have access or till they pull the plug :)

See here for more help/links explaining par files >>> Repairing RAR files?????

Most of them are from my shares already posted here so instead of bumping all the posts I will just stick 'em all here and please just search the forum for more info and ed2k links and torrents.

I might get around to doing a step-by-step guide for finishing files on ed2k one day, in the meantime here's a copy of a thread we's all having at www.mvgroup.org that might be handy to someone

Converting unfinished BT downloads to ED2K

DrDave wrote:Here's a link to a utility which converts an unfinished BitTorrent download into an eDonkey download.
http://files.overnet.com/modules/mydownloa...ile.php?lid=179
I haven't tried it yet, but I guess you need to select the appropriate filename for the ED2K download if it's different from the BT download. It might help some people who want to finish those unfinished torrents.

Scott wrote:Nice tip DrDave, I may just be using that myself.

tumtays wrote:the utility is called dmtorrent2part. made by the peeps at www.garada.net

heres the ed2k link for it
ed2k: Dmtorrent2Part2.3.zip  [723.5 Kb] [Stats]

ls -alF wrote:and I have used this a few times and it worked ok

ed2k: ftp2donkey-v1.1.zip  [11.4 Kb] [Stats]

and IIRC there is one called metgenerator and another called donkeydoctor

I think these tools can only make part files for completed ed2k chunks (9.28mb) but you should be able to recover most of it

:)

hpmmfs wrote:are there any utilities that do the reverse?
That is ed2k to BT? I am looking at trying to get the 6of6 Trojan war file completed, and then shared on ed2k but don't really want to start from the beggining with a new torrent file.

ls -alF wrote:oh yeah, ed2k to BT is really easy

right click or hover the mouse over the file in emule and find the .part number (eg: 007.part) then copy this from your emule temp folder into your BT incoming folder and rename it to match the name of the BT download.

Now click your torrent and point it to save in the same place as the incomplete file.
The torrent will start checking it and then will download what ever pieces are missing.

:yahoo:

hpmmfs wrote::huh:
ah shoot... I wish I had known that OR had just thought it through myself, of course it would work that way...

me feeling dumbass at the moment.

Unfortunatly the one that I wanted to complete I deleted and downloaded (now reshared on ed2k) from BT. Fortunatly I was able to download it in a fast manner and share more than I downloaded, still... I would have been nice to not have to download the whole thing all over again.

Next time I have this issue I will do the above.

Thanks again. :yahoo:

ls -alF wrote:ha. np,

..provided of course your bt doesn't use temp files. most don't. - otherwise rename to the temp file name

I find this useful sometimes with damaged/missing rars from binaries or irc. BT works really well as a recovery method.
To do this you need to find a site that seeds as rars or try the "keep broken files" method in winrar and then continue the partial download.
note: there is a video HOW TO guide for extracting incompletes in the FAQ/help section
>> Extracting a sample movie from a Rar set

:victory: enjoy !

DrDave wrote:I just used dmTorrent to convert an incomplete BT download to an ED2k download. It worked.

looks like the BT to ed2k converter acutally makes incompleted chuncks too, so you only download what you are missing.

For example I am missing 12 megs off of about 8 different chuncks, the rest is all done.

I will know more in a little, this case is from this thread:
http://www.mvgroup.org/forums/index.php?ac...t=15#entry68791
(*ADDED* it worked! I am presently seeding the file)

this is unlike the tools you mention, but I am not sure about those either. =/

hpmmfs wrote:I must say that I have had remarkably good success with this tool in reviving dead torrents by transfering them to ed2k and completing them there.

I am very happy that this tool was linked. =)

It should become a standard part of emule. :D
