A group of diverse strangers find themselves stranded in a deserted town with no idea of how they got there or where the town is. Security cameras are watching their every move, defeating their attempts to escape along with high tech means to hold them in including a "pain fence" based on microwave technology that acts like a force field that no living thing can cross. Faced with physical, emotional and psychological challenges, the hostages must rely on each other to survive as their abductors sow mistrust and pit them against each other, including life and death situations in which the captives may have the lives of each other in each other's hands. Meanwhile, an investigative reporter has begun to look into the disappearance of the missing people despite intimidation by those apparently in the know.
